Healthy habits, healthy life. Your startup to 2025
It’s easy to want the ‘new year, new me’ but really how do you do this? More importantly, how do you do this without burnout?
This blog is focused around healthy habits, healthy life. Meaning you can get that new year new you feeling but with real longevity to it. Here are some small things I believe anyone who is serious about progressing their fitness or starting a weight loss journey can do.
Assess your current activity level on a mundane level (essential steps getting from A - B, daily physicality at work, home life), look at these 3 things and decide where you can make changes. Look to make changes to at least one of these areas and increase the current level of movement by 25%. After 3-4 weeks look to increase this again incrementally until you reach an additional 50% on top of your baseline level.
Assess eating habits, such as mealtimes and snacking. Look to standardise meal times as much as possible and make sure you are fuelling yourself with whole/unprocessed foods in each meal.
Look at your sleep schedule, does your routine vary dramatically from day to day? Can you start to create a routine around sleep to help you set your circadian rhythm. This will help create the feeling of tiredness at a certain time and allow for better quality sleep. Extra points if you can spend 8-9 hours in bed per night.
These small habits are essentially going to start laying the foundations for a solid routine and allow you to feel fuelled, rested and recovered. Working out is a stressor on the body and if your goals include health and wellness you need to set up your body to be properly fuelled and recovered if you are going to workout and push yourself.
Some smaller things to think about along the way…
Having performance goals as well as physique goals can make it a hell of a lot more fun!
Following a programme in the gym will create confidence and great results
It's okay to change your goals as you progress.
There is a lot of noise online and every knows social media is a highlights reel
Don’t do something if you absolutely hate doing it - there are a lot of different ways to get fit
